In 1958, the Mullins family experiences a tragic event: the death of their only daughter, Annabelle.
EIn desperation, they pledged their devotion to any power that would allow them to speak again or see their daughter. After several paranormal events, the entity asked them to get into their daughter's favorite doll to be with them forever.
They agreed to that request... and that's when it gained strength: they began to have fleeting visions of their daughter. For them, it was comforting to have life back at home...
They soon realized that it wasn't the Annabelle they knew at all: it was a demonic presence that was using Annabelle to manipulate them and get a human soul.
With the help of the Church they managed to save their souls but... the evil was still attached to that doll.
Years later, in the 1970s, the Warrens locked the doll, which had ended up in the hands of a nurse, inside a glass case in the basement of their house.
